Our maestro mezcalero is Ancelmo López Luis, born and raised in San Dionisio Ocotepec and heir to a lineage of five generations of mezcaleros, more than a century of knowledge passed down from parent to child. Ancelmo oversees and signs every batch of VIVAROSE, while his brother Julio López Luis leads the day-to-day work at the palenque, the family distillery where the mezcal is cooked, milled, fermented, distilled and bottled.

The palenque works the way palenques have worked for a hundred years: an earthen stone oven, open-air fermentation, small copper stills, and decisions made by eye, nose and memory rather than by machine. Every step happens in San Dionisio Ocotepec, within the family, from the agave field to the finished bottle.

When you pour VIVAROSE, you are tasting the work of a single family and a single town.

That is what artisanal means here, and it is not a marketing word.
